Wine Tasting Mondays- Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Reisling Qualitatswein.

Ok, sure its only Monday, but what a better day to wine taste than the beginning of the week, when we're usually overwhelmed and busy. So, wine tasting just might be a great activity to top and knock off the beginnings of our stressful work week. (for those of you working, and if not, just have some wine anyway.:)

I hereby declare, on ItalianAmericanGirl.com we will now honor WINE TASTING MONDAYS, every week. Yes, I will take on the task of testing and tasting a new wine every week in an effort to grow and cultivate our wine knowledge.

Lets start! This week I will start off with the country of Germany. Let's see what the Germans are making. Italians do make great wine, but let's let others in on it too. Ok, so I first tasted this wine at Thanksgiving over dinner.

A guest brought the wine and what really made me try the wine was the mere fact that the wine was packaged in these beautifully painted scene like, frosted, skinny bottles. The wine is called, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Reisling Qualitatswein. Its actually imported from Thomas Halby Wineries in Sonoma, Ca. They've managed to market and package this Reisling wine in the most attractive bottling. As for the wine itself, when I tasted the wine with dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by its sweetness. Its a Reisling wine, which I never really knew the difference but it turns out this particular wine now runs a strong second place in my favorites of wines.

I think I was expecting a more dry or bitter taste like maybe a Pinot Grigio type flavor. But I have lots to learn when it comes to wine, so I have to keep my opinion simple here and tell you the Reisling tastes sweet, with no after taste and its mildly dry, which I like. So, because I liked it so much at dinner then, I bought a bottle tonight with the same scenery you see in the picture above.
I would definitely suggest this wine as a gift, for the mere fact that the packaging alone is just beautiful. You can actually collect different scenes on each bottle. Visit the Thomas Halby Wineries site and see the bottling scenes for yourself. The wine runs about $13.00 a bottle, which isn't bad and the fact is --the wine is good, so the price is right. If you've had this wine before, feel free to comment.
Here are the specs on this particular wine:
